BATON ROUGE- Many have spoken in support of former Governor Edwin Edwards on the day of his release from federal prison. But for every supporter, there are people who say Edwards got what he deserved.
The man who tried to prosecute Edwards twice tells News 2 the justice system worked.
"The law says that if he committed fraud in some fashion, or in the process, than he's got no more excuse to be able to do that than anybody else," said former U.S. Attorney Stanford Bardwell Jr.
Bardwell says now that justice is served, he hopes Edwards can now get on with his life.
"He's just a person, he's now back in a better situation and I think that'll be fine."
