Former college hoops player dies in Conn. shooting
NEW HAVEN, Conn.- Authorities say a former Connecticut high school basketball standout who later played for Providence College and Louisiana Tech has died after being shot several times in the back.
New Haven police say 31-year-old Donell Allick died Saturday of injuries he received Friday. Detectives believe he was targeted and ambushed after a domestic dispute, though they did not release details.
Allick was a standout at New Haven's Hillhouse High School before playing for Providence and Louisiana Tech. He left college to enter the 2006 NBA draft, but was not selected.
Allick was one of two people killed in New Haven over the weekend.
Police also were investigating the death of 17-year-old Travis Washington, who was killed late Saturday in what police call a targeted shooting. Both cases remained under investigation Sunday.
