DENHAM SPRINGS - A retired BRPD officer turned himself into sheriff’s deputies in Livingston Parish after he was accused of raping a child.

52-year-old Barry Parrish, of Denham Springs, was booked on one count of first degree rape following his arrest on Wednesday.

LPSO Sheriff Jason Ard said during an investigation it was learned that Parrish had engaged in illicit sexual acts with a juvenile on July 16 of this year. Further details were limited.

The sheriff also noted that Parrish is a retired Baton Rouge City Police officer.

Parrish was taken to the Tangipahoa Parish Prison for placement as the Livingston Parish Detention Center is not currently housing inmates due to recent flooding.

His bond is currently set at $100,000.
