LIVINGSTON - It's the last place most thought 29-year-old Kimberly Blount would ever end up, especially her mom.
"I was devastated, totally devastated," Gwen Thomas told News 2.
Blount, the former "Miss Honey Dew Denham Springs", was arrested after officers said they caught her and Kennie Wascom II trying to bring a stash of drugs into the Livingston Parish Detention Center.
Investigators said Blount was driving the lookout car, while Wascom snuck through woods near the jail to deliver the drugs.
"I think she just got caught up in the wrong situation and in the crowd," said Thomas.
A tip helped investigators foil the plan and further investigation led to eight inmates, including Blount's husband, being charged with conspiracy, according to Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard.
"These inmates have all day to sit there and think of ways they can get these drugs in there to them," Ard told News 2, "So we have to do everything we can to keep it from happening. This time it was prevented."
Bond for Blount and Wascom was set at $1 million, but her family has tried to raise the money to get her out.
Her mother says this arrest might be a blessing in disguise.
"I hope this will change some things that's been going on for the better," she said.
