Former Ascension Parish sheriff dies
GONZALES - Harold Tridico, a longtime sheriff of Ascension Parish, has died according to the sheriff's office. He was 86.
According to the department's website Tridico spent was a sheriff "with an iron fist and an iron jaw." Tridico was elected in 1974 and spent 22 years in the office. Before that he served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, participating in the invasion of Okinawa and landing of occupational troops in Japan.
Current Sheriff Jeff Wiley said Tridico was his "mentor," and that he was proud to have known him.
Tridico is survived by his wife, four children, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be this weekend in Gonzales.
