BATON ROUGE- The Jindal Administration has formally requested a move suspending merit raises for about 56,000 state employees.
Commissioner of Administration Paul Rainwater told the LA Civil Service Commission this was a difficult decision, but the right one given the state's $1.6 billion dollar budget shortfall.
Some members of the commission agree with the move. Others say state workers should not be asked to sacrifice again.
At least one agency hopes to be exempt from the plan because it generates its own revenue and does not receive general fund money.
