Forgot to wrap the pipes? This list might save the day!
BATON ROUGE- A freeze warning is in effect since temperatures Monday night will dip as low as 19 degrees.
Plumbers suggest when it gets that cold, exposed pipes should be wrapped. And, while it's not too late, it's unlikely many people will get up and go outside overnight to do it.
So, the WBRZ News 2 team has assembled tips for people who didn't get a chance to insulate pipes, for whatever reason.
- Let the water drip. Open a faucet and place a large bowl or bucket underneath the nozzle. It will keep water circulating and could prevent freezing. Once the concern is over, you can use the water in a boil on Thanksgiving Day.
- An old wives tale suggests opening cabinet doors to warm pipes.
- And, if you've done nothing and you find that pipes have frozen shutoff the water immediately.
In addition to pipes, it is also a good idea to take in plants from outside overnight Monday and Tuesday.
