LIVONIA, La. - Louisiana State Police say impairment is suspected in a crash that took the life of a Pointe Coupee man.

Just after midnight Saturday, State Police Troop A began investigations on a single vehicle fatality accident on LA 77, south of LA 81.

State Police say that Matthew Martin, 29, was travelling southbound on LA 77, when his vehicle drove off the right side of the road in a left hand curve. Martin tried to overcorrect the turn, causing his vehicle to rotate counter-clockwise.

The vehicle came to a stop after striking a tree on the passenger side.

Martin was unrestrained at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead on scene.

Troopers suspect impairment to be a factor in the crash.  A toxicology sample was taken from Martin and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
