BATON ROUGE - Forbes Magazine named Baton Rouge as one of the top places to retire.
Mayor-President Kip Holden says is a tribute to the city's great quality of life and world-class health care facilities.
"Today's active seniors are looking for a lifestyle that provides recreation, cultural activities and opportunities to volunteer in the community," Holden said. "The work we are doing in so many areas to improve our community makes Baton Rouge a great choice for anyone who may be considering relocating for retirement."
Forbes' ratings consider living and housing costs, taxes, weather, air quality, doctor availability, crime rates and active-lifestyle rankings for bicycling and volunteering.
Forbes also takes into account the Milken Institute's ranking of "Best Cities for Successful Aging", which ranked Baton Rouge at Number 14 in 2012.
