Following controversial festival poster, artist paints "response"
PONCHATOULA - The artist at the center of a recent controversy surrounding the town's Strawberry Festival poster unveiled an artistic response to the situation on his website.
Kalle' Siekkinen posted he created the "response paintings" after his original work garnered lots of attention. The new works, titled "Not About Color," "Letting Go" and "Mother Teresa" have similar characters as the original poster.
The Strawberry Festival poster depicted two black figures and some thought the image was racist.
The issue prompted a meeting involving city and festival leaders along with the NAACP where it was decided the poster was not going to be sold on festival grounds.
