Flu picks up in other southern states
ATLANTA- Flu season is in full swing around the South.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says five states had widespread reports of flu last week. That's up from zero two weeks earlier.
A CDC report says four of the states were southern states: Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Virgina. The other was New York.
The report also shows that tests of more than 100 virus samples show the flu strains seem to match well with the season's flu vaccine.
Health officials say more than 23,000 flu-related deaths occur every year.
