Flu on the rise in La. and surrounding states
BATON ROUGE- Flu is one of the biggest health concerns every winter. The Centers for Disease Control and Preventions says it's widespread in four southern states including Louisiana.
Doctors say there's a spike from the H1N1 strain also known as the swine flu.
This is the same strain that caused a pandemic in 2009. It is one of the viruses included in this year's flu shot.
Health experts say it's never to late to get the shot to prevent Swine Flu and several other flu strains.
"It's very important that people remember or realize it's not too late to get the flu vaccine. Flu temporarily peaks in Louisiana in January so it is a perfect time to get flu vaccination," said Dr. Marilyn Reynaud, with the Department of Health and Hospitals.
Six people have died in Texas from the Swine Flu with two of those cases not too far from Louisiana in Beaumont.
