NAPOLEONVILLE- Assumption Parish public school students will not have to attend classes next week because of
concerns over potential flooding threats posed by the Mississippi River.

The school board voted Wednesday to end the 2010-11 school year on Friday.

Superintendent Earl Martinez tells The Advocate that parish middle and high schools were originally scheduled to administer final exams next week.

As part of the decision to dismiss students, the board also voted unanimously to exempt parish middle school students from taking final exams, because of to the flooding concerns.

Assumption High School leaders also chose to administer final exams Thursday and Friday instead of next week.

While students will not report to school, teachers and administrators are required to report to their respective schools through May 26.
