ST. FRANCISVILLE - Flood waters covered a few low-lying roads and structures in West Feliciana Parish on Tuesday. No inhabited homes were in danger, but officials want residents to watch out for road flooding.

Brian Spillman is the Parish's Emergency Preparedness director. He said flooding this late in the year is "unprecedented."

Spillman said the Mississippi River crested in the area Monday night. In St. Francisville, areas near the river aren't protected by levies.

Resident Ken Stewart surveyed the flooding Tuesday when he took his grandchildren kayaking. "Deer stands that are normally 10-15 feet off the ground have water near the floor," said Stewart.

The flooding doesn't phase him, he points to much worse floods in previous years. "It's part of living near the Mississippi," said Stewart. "Does it affect the people up in West Feliciana? Not a whole lot, we're all on high ground."

Spillman expects all the roads to reopen next week when the water recedes.
