'Flessie' flamingo found fine
BATON ROUGE - Organizers of the Spanish Town Mardi Gras parade said an iconic flamingo statue nicknamed "Flessie" has been found safe and sound.
Joshua Ramirez, who restored the flamingo head, said a group of people called to let them know they'd picked it up over the weekend and didn't realize the significance of it until new reports aired that the statue was missing.
Ramirez said they were told the head was found abandoned near a dumpster Saturday night and taken home by the group who called in the tip. He said somebody took the head out of the back of a pickup after the Spanish Town parade, and asked Monday that it be returned "no questions asked."
The ten-foot-tall flamingo head was displayed at the judges stand Saturday for the Spanish Town parade.
