Flashy theft suspect busted
GONZALES- Sheriff's deputies identified and reported the arrest of a man from Texas for a bizarre theft at a golf course recently.
Richard Meissner, 69, was arrested by U.S. Marshals after being tracked down in Houston. Meissner was wanted in Ascension Parish for theft charges.
Authorities said Meissner was seen on security video, wearing a bright Hawaiian short stuffing golf clubs in his pants and walking out of the pro shop at Pelican Point, a golf course and community off Highway 44. Investigators said the four clubs Meissner stole were worth about $1500.
Meissner has a criminal history of theft, larceny, kidnapping, robbery, and other charges dating back to 1994. He remains in custody in Houston and is awaiting a court hearing for extradition.
