Flaring possible this week at Exxon plant
BATON ROUGE - Residents in north Baton Rouge could see increased activity this week at the ExxonMobil Chemical Plant on Scenic Hwy.
Officials say the flaring might happen as they shut down equipment for maintenance, and isn't because of an emergency.
According to Exxon officials, flaring is an environmentally approved measure to safely burn off virtually all the excess hydrocarbons that cannot be processed during a unit shutdown, slowdown, or restart.
The company is working to minimize the flaring as much as possible.
