Baton Rouge Animal Control is searching for a pack of dogs that killed 17 flamingos at the Baton Rouge Zoo on Monday.

Animal Control is patrolling neighborhoods near the zoo looking for stray dogs.

They believe the dogs got through holes or open gates in the fence surrounding the property.

Thirty birds are still on display. Zoo staffers know they may never find the dogs that killed the birds.

The zoo hopes to rebuild the flamingo population, but no flamingo chicks have hatched in four years.
