Five busted with meth and heroin in Livingston Parish
DENHAM SPRINGS - The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office arrested five people in Denham Springs during a search warrant stemming from an investigation into illegal drugs.
Deputies arrested 31-year-old Joseph "JoJo" Rousseau, 41-year-old Jeremy Austin Hebert and 38-year-old Eric Byrd Jr. at a house on Wisteria Street Tuesday. A press release states that investigators found $2,100 worth of meth and $100 worth of heroin.
The search also led to arrests of 34-year-old Samuel Wright and 33-year-old Nicole Sonnier after deputies found meth and heroin in their vehicle, according to a press release.
Residents down the street say they've suspected illegal activity in their neighborhood for a while.
"Cadillacs and Hummers and just big, beautiful expensive cars coming in on the weekend driving back there to get their drugs for the weekend," said one resident. "So they've been dealing drugs for years, and I guess they finally caught him."
Rousseua's mother, Anita Wingard, spoke with News 2 and says she's surprised her son was arrested for allegedly selling and using meth and heroin. She says it's upsetting that her grandkids could have been exposed to the illegal activity.
"Well that is a great concern of mine, especially since their mother got busted last March with way more. She was apparently a dealer, and that is very upsetting to me," said Wingard.
On the other hand, neighbors say they're glad the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office is cleaning up the parish.
"I'm excited, because if we can get those kinds of people off the street everybody's property values are going to go up," said one woman. "It's going to make a safer environment for people's children to live in. It's going to be awesome."
All five were booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center and face multiple drug charges. Rousseau also has a charge for illegally carrying a weapon. Since 2012, the sheriff's office says it has seized around $2 million in illegal drugs in the parish.
