Five accused of using counterfeit bills
BATON ROUGE - Five people from the Houston area have been arrested for trying to pass off counterfeit $100 bills around Baton Rouge.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff detectives arrested 22 year-old Victor Henry, 22 year-old Mazarati Esset, 23 year-old Krystal Noriega, 22 year-old Tabatha Jolivet and 22 year-old Kayla Peterson last night.
Detectives received an anonymous tip that the five were using the counterfeit bills to make small purchases and get change.
Detectives say one of the suspects admitted to getting the counterfeit money in Houston and driving to several cities to buy things and give their change to Henry.
The suspect provided a list of about 20 businesses where they used the bills on December 29 and 30. Investigators say a search warrant of the suspect's hotel rooms found counterfeit bills in each one.
The investigation is ongoing, evidence is still being processed, and more charges are expected.
Business owners or individuals that suspect they have a counterfeit bill should call their local law enforcement agency to make a report.
