Fists, chairs fly at Calif. country club meeting
RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - A weekend homeowners association meeting at a seemingly genteel Palm Springs-area country club turned into an all-out brawl when fists - and even chairs - flew between members.
Riverside County sheriff's Deputy Myling Bordeau told the Desert Sun on Tuesday that the rumble erupted when some members were unhappy with the winner in a board of directors election at The Springs Country Club in Rancho Mirage, a private golf and tennis club and gated community.
Bordeau says the Sunday meeting first just featured yelling and pushing, but then escalated to tackling, punching and chair-throwing. A club security guard pulled his gun from his holster, but kept it at its side.
Two people were taken to the hospital, one who complained of pain and another who had a seizure.
