LAKE CHARLES- Louisiana was chosen over Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East for a new chemical plant. The company, Sasol Ltd. will expand it's operations in Southwest Louisiana.
The new facility will use ethylene to produce polymer- the basic chemical needed to manufacture plastic. It's the first facility of its kind, in the world.
The project will create 36 new jobs with salaries around $60,000. 350 jobs at the current plant will be kept. Construction starts in 2011 and the plant is set to open in 2013.
Economic analysts estimate the plant could generate $120 million in new state taxes over the next ten years.
