BATON ROUGE - Members of a new blue ribbon commission scheduled their first meeting today to examine public safety at the Bayou Corne sinkhole.

Louisiana Department of Natural Resources Secretary Stephen Chustz said today's meeting would focus on getting the new members of the commission familiar with the sinkhole situation as it stands.

Gov. Bobby Jindal called for the commission's creation to help ensure the long-term safety of people living near the sinkhole. The community of Bayou Corne had to evacuate because of the sinkhole. Texas Brine, which owns the land it appeared on, is in the process of offering them buyouts of their property.

News 2's Adrian Pittman is at the commission meeting and will have more on what was discussed tonight.
