DONALDSONVILLE- A possible firework ban is raising questions about the annual July 3rd firework display on the levee in Donaldsonville, but Chuck Montero, the Fire Chief for the city, says the show will go on.
"Even though there's a burn ban in effect and that might prohibit personal firework displays special displays such as this one will be allowed because they're specially permitted," said Montero.
Now the Donaldsonville Downtown Development District is scrambling to raise enough money to fund the celebration. The program is about $10,000 short, but is accepting donations.
"The volunteers of Donaldsonville DDD are literally knocking on their neighbors doors, making phone calls," said Missy Jandura, director of the Donaldsonville DDD.
Still, Jandura says the show will happen no matter how much money they raise.
"We're the best of what America is, we're growing, we're bringing in new businesses, new residents, and we need to preserve that and one of the best ways to do that is to acknowledge what's great about America and we're proud to put that on," said Jandura.
