Fires displace two families over Mother's Day weekend
BATON ROUGE - The Red Cross is assisting two displaced families from fires over the weekend.
Firefighters with Baton Rouge Fire Department and St. George Fire Department arrived at a three-plex on the 3000 block of Toulon Dr. to find fire shooting through the roof of one of the apartments around 3:20 a.m. on Sunday.
Fire officials say a family of three was able to escape safely without any injuries but are now displaced due to moderate fire and water damage to their home.
Investigators believe the fire started in a utility water closet where the A/C and water heater were stored.
A family living on Crestview Ave. is also displaced after a fire broke out in their home around 5:47 p.m. Saturday.
Firefighters say they were able to contain the fire in the kitchen where it started, but the home received heavy smoke damage.
No foul play is suspected.
