Fires destroy office, home in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE – Two fires that happened within minutes of each other destroyed a home and a business office this weekend, according to the Baton Rouge Fire Department.
The office of an auto repair shop at 7300 Scenic Highway was completely destroyed Sunday night, while investigators think a stove left on is what gutted a home on 3730 Greenway.
Crews responded to the auto shop fire at 10:15 p.m., and were able to keep the fire contained to the office area. A warehouse and garage next to the office was not damaged, and investigators are still not sure how the fire started.
Four minutes after that fire was called in crews responded to the house fire on Greenway. The fire had been burning unnoticed for some time and had spread into the attic before crews were called out. It took firefighters nearly two hours to get the fire under control.
After talking to the home’s occupants, investigators think a stove inside was accidentally turned higher instead of being turned off when they left to run an errand.
The Red Cross was called out to assist the people displaced by the Greenway fire.
