NEW ORLEANS- Firefighters are on the scene of a massive fire in Mid City early Monday morning, WWL-TV reports.

According to New Orleans Fire Department Chief Tim McConnell the fire started just before 5 a.m. at a warehouse that housed three businesses near the intersection of Toulouse Street and North Jefferson Davis Parkway.

A second alarm was called one minute after firefighters arrived at the scene. A third alarm was called a short time later, authorities say.

McConnell said 60 firefighters and at least a dozen firetrucks are battling the fire, WWL-TV reports.

Firefighters were told the fire started in the back corner of the metal bowstring truss warehouse building. McConnell said that type of construction is easily susceptible to collapse under intense heat, WWL reports.

No injuries have been reported.

Residents and drivers are urged to avoid the area.
