HAMMOND – Fire investigators were at the scene of two business fires Monday, still sifting through rubble to figure out what caused a massive blaze the day before.

The Hammond Fire Department had assistance from the State Fire Marshal Monday. Multiple fire crews helped battle the blaze in downtown Sunday.

Firefighters were initially called to Lee's Drive-In and the neighboring Super King Seafood Market around 2 p.m. Quickly, firefighters had to close area streets as the response grew because the fire was so large.

"With the heat, multiple roofs and multiple buildings we appreciate mutual aid from Ponchatoula, Natalbany, and Independence,” the fire department told news-partner ActionNews17.com.

Preliminary reports suggest the fire originated at the Super King and then spread to Lee’s Drive-In. Both businesses were open and operating at the time of the fire and store personnel were able to safely evacuate customers and employees. No one was hurt.

It's unclear if and when either business will reopen.
