BATON ROUGE- Thirty firefighters fought a blaze that torched two homes and burned a third near McKinley High School.

The fire broke out just after 10:30 a.m. on E. Johnson St. in an abandoned home. The wind blew the flames into a neighboring home, igniting it as fire tore through the house and into the attic.

"Bright orange! It happened so quick and no body knew nothing it just consumed the house so quick, it didn't take long to consume it," said Andra Woods, who called 911 when he saw the fire.

Embers from the fire traveled down the street igniting the outside porch of a third home.

Firefighters called the blaze suspicious, because it started in a vacant home, with no power running to the house.

People who live the area think the fire may have been started by neighborhood kids with too much time on their hands.

"Those kids, they hang out there all the time, in that area, on that porch, and I guess this was one of those times where they were tempted to do something that ended tragically," said Malcolm Jackson, who grew up in the neighborhood.

Seven people were displaced from the neighboring home, but are receiving some help from The Red Cross.

Fire investigators ask anyone with information about the blaze to contact arson investigators.
