BATON ROUGE- Fire investigators responded to an early morning fire on Friday at Capitol High School.

According to Mark Miles with the Baton Rouge Fire Department, emergency crews responded to the scene and found classrooms on the second floor of the building on fire. Miles said the rooms suffered heavy smoke damage from the blaze.

Authorities say no foul play is suspected, however the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Accoridng to the department, the fire was contained to three classrooms and computers in the rooms were covered with tarps for protection. The rest of the building did not receive damage.

According to the fire department, classes had not yet begun and no one was injured.

Recovery School District Superintendent Patrick Dobard issued the following statement about the fire:

“The Recovery School District is foremost concerned with the safety of students and staff and we are pleased that no one was harmed during this morning’s fire at Capitol High School. As authorities continue to look into the cause of the fire and thus ensure there are no further incidents, we will continue to work closely with East Baton Rouge Parish Schools to focus on the expeditious repair of the facility and get students back into the classroom as soon as possible.”
