Fire Prevention Week in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE- Sunday kicked off Fire Prevention Week in Baton Rouge with a focus this year on preventing kitchen fires.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires and home fire-related injuries. Two of every five home fires begin in the kitchen.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department urged residents to use this week to establish a fire safety plan and make sure they're ready if a fire was to happen.
Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 6 - 12. It always falls on the week of Oct. 9 to commemorate the Chicago fire in the 1800s, which destroyed a large portion of the city.
