Fire extinguished at The Myrtles
ST. FRANCISVILLE- A fire on the property of The Myrtles Plantation was extinguished Wednesday night, but not before destroying the plantation gift shop.
St. Francisville Police Chief Scott Ford said what was not burned was ruined by water. Ford said the gift shop was about eight to ten feet away from the plantation and firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to the 218-year-old house.
The fire was contained to the gift shop. It was not immediately clear how long the fire was burning.
"We got off really lucky tonight," Ford told WBRZ News 2.
There is no word on what caused the fire.
More information will be released Thursday.
