BATON ROUGE - Firefighters said a lightning strike is to blame for a fire which destroyed a Baton Rouge home this afternoon.
Barry Mounce with BRFD said they were called to 222 West Woodgate Court at 2:27 p.m. Witnesses said they heard a loud boom as storms moved through the area, and saw flames shooting up from the roof shortly after.
The fire took an hour to get under control, and the home was considered a total loss. One firefighter was overcome by the heat and treated on the scene.
Mounce said no one was home at the time of the fire, but the occupants came home after firefighters had arrived.
