LAPLACE - A large fire burned a railroad icon between Baton Rouge and New Orleans Saturday morning.

The elevated portion of railroad across the Bonnet Carre Spillway burned in a vibrant show. Flames engulfed the wooden structure of the tracks.

WWL TV in New Orleans reported railroad workers doing work on the bridge may have started the fire.

Train routes will be re-routed until the crossing is repaired.  Expect more train activity in Livingston Parish, officials said this weekend.

"I'm on the Amtrak between Chicago and New Orleans," Tim Lazoroe told the station. "They just announced that due to a fire that has closed the rails, all passengers will have to exit the train in Jackson, MS and will be bussed to New Orleans."
