Fire at old LSU fieldhouse from workers
BATON ROUGE - Investigators said a fire at the old LSU fieldhouse Thursday was caused by a crew working on the roof.
Robert Combs with the Baton Rouge Fire Department said a roofing crew covering an old skylight on the Huey P. Long Fieldhouse ignited some wood with a torch they were using. The building's air conditioning system them blew smoke from the fire throughout the building.
Firefighters evacuated everyone from the building with no injuries, and contained the fire to the area where the crew was working. They then blew the smoke out of the building with assistance from maintenance workers.
Combs said damage to the building was estimated to be around $75,000.
