Firefighters in Baton Rouge responded to a house fire at 1655 79th Avenue around 4 a.m. Thursday.

Five people were inside the home during the fire, but made it out safely.

Firefighters believe a pot left on the stove started the fire that burned the kitchen and caused damage to several adjacent rooms and the attic.

The rest of the home has significant heat and smoke damage.
