Fiery crash kills two
LEESVILLE - State police say two people died in a single-vehicle crash on West Hawthorne Road near U.S. Highway 171 in Vernon Parish.
Master Trooper Scott Moreau says the driver, a 21-year-old man from Fort Polk, has been identified, but that victim's name has not been made public as Fort Polk authorities are making arrangements to notify next of kin.
Moreau says the passenger has not been identified due to the severity of injuries and burns.
He says the crash happened around 2:40 a.m. Sunday.
Moreau says a 2010 Subaru was eastbound on West Hawthorne when the driver lost control, the car ran off the road, hit a tree and caught fire.
The crash remains under investigation.
