Ferries on special schedules for Mardi Gras

NEW ORLEANS - Special hours are set for ferries on the Mississippi River at New Orleans for the weekend and through Mardi Gras.

The Algiers-Canal Street ferry will operate for vehicles and pedestrians on Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m.-3 p.m. Final boarding for vehicles will be at 1 p.m. in Algiers, and at 1:15 p.m. at Canal Street. After 3 p.m., pedestrian-only boats will operate until 12:15 a.m.

On Monday, the Algiers-Canal Street ferry will carry vehicles until 1:15 p.m. On Mardi Gras, ferries will be pedestrian-only beginning at 6 a.m. with the final boat leaving Canal Street for Algiers at 12:15 a.m. on Wednesday.

There will be no Gretna ferry service this weekend. However, the Algiers-Chalmette ferry will operate from 6 a.m.- 8:45 p.m.

Normal schedules resume on Wednesday.
