BATON ROUGE - Louisiana's female lawmakers are seeking to expand their ranks.

The Louisiana Legislative Women's Caucus said Friday that it's running a TV public service announcement around the state encouraging women to run for public office in Louisiana.

The caucus says though women make up more than half of the state's population, only a quarter of Louisiana's elected offices were held by females in a survey done earlier this year. In the state Legislature, women hold 11 percent of the seats.

The caucus also is running public service announcements thanking female veterans and encouraging women to seek college degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The PSAs are run in a partnership with Cox Louisiana, according to the caucus. The ads will run on Cox channels.
