ASSUMPTION - Disaster experts from FEMA toured the parish Tuesday, looking at the devastation. What they found will be used to determine if Assumption Parish should be added to the list of declared disaster areas in Louisiana.

Currently, 10 parishes are on that list, which qualifies people for special storm victim benefits.

Ascension, Jefferson, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines St. Bernard, St. John the Baptist and St. Tammany parishes have been among the areas declared disasters. St. Charles was added most recently.

The state wants 13 other parishes added to the list, including Assumption, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. James, St. Mary, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, Washington, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana.

FEMA and other emergency leaders toured Tangipahoa Parish also.

A decision could take days.
