PORT ALLEN- People in West Baton Rouge Parish can now get some help applying for federal assistance because of Hurricane Isaac.

Kelly Prejean is one of the many people who came out today to the West Baton Rouge Parish Community Center in Port Allen, applying for FEMA assistance.

"I had a limb that fell on my trailer, and you know we were out of power for three or four days, and with a kid without power was hard," Prejean told News 2.

Prejean said she's out of work and uninsured, so making the repairs to her home herself is almost impossible to do. That's where FEMA steps in.

"There seems to be quite a need here for our assistance and we hope people get assistance with their home repairs," said FEMA representative Dolores Pierce.

FEMA says if whether the storm took down a tree in your yard or caused major damage to your home, everyone is eligible for assistance.

"Even if they don't think they had much damage, they may have more than they think, so it's just real important that everyone apply," Pierce said.

Prejean hopes she's approved for assistance so things can return to normal.

"That would would me and assist me with the damages to my house and everything, so I won't have a bucket underneath my ceiling when it leaks," she said.

The center is open from 8 a.m until 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15th through Thursday, Oct. 18th.
