Feds investigating Nagin travel, family business
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - People with direct knowledge of the investigation say federal authorities are looking into longstanding questions about free trips and gratuities that former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin allegedly accepted while in office.
The people told The Associated Press on Friday that authorities also are investigating how a firm founded by Nagin and his sons landed a contract to install granite countertops for local Home Depot stores.
The people spoke on condition of anonymity because they could not publicly comment on an ongoing investigation.
Nagin told AP that he hasn't been contacted by investigators and heard about the probe from newspaper reports.
Some of the allegations already are the subject of state ethics charges.
