Federal prison in Pollock remains on lockdown
POLLOCK - The federal prison in Pollock remained on lockdown Tuesday, after several inmates were injured in a fight over the weekend.
Officials told The Town Talk that one inmate remained hospitalized Tuesday from injuries suffered in the fight, which broke out shortly before noon Saturday in the U.S. Penitentiary's maximum-security area. About 15 prisoners were involved in the melee.
Five prisoners were taken to hospital for treatment, and by Sunday, four had been returned to the prison.
What caused the fight is still under investigation.
Under lockdown, inmates are restricted to their living quarters. Routine activities, including visitation, are temporarily suspended.
The prison is in Grant Parish, about 15 miles north of Alexandria. It holds about 1,300 inmates and a staff of about 660 in several facilities.
