BATON ROUGE - News 2 has learned the FBI has joined the investigation into a murder involving a 21-year-old Florida woman found beaten and dumped in Claycut Bayou.

The gruesome discovery was made more than a week ago, off Tiger Bend Road and Hoo Shoo Too. Ellixson was from Florida but was living in Livingston Parish recently.

Charline Templet lives close to where Ellixson's body was discovered and can't remember the last time a body was found in the Bayou.

"A lot of people I know walk, jog and ride bikes in the area, and it's kind of scary," Templet said.

Investigators said Ellixson had blunt force trauma to her head, neck and chest.

"I can tell you this was a particularly heinous and brutal homicide, something we don't see on a regular basis," Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said.

The sheriff's office said the FBI got involved to see if any other homicides in this area or the nation have similar characteristics to Ellixson's murder.

"I think it's pretty unusual," Templet said. "It makes me a little more concerned.  The FBI doesn't come in for anything."

As the investigation continues, law enforcement plans to keep working until an arrest is made.

"This is our second unsolved homicide of the year," Gautreaux said.  "The other is now way related to this. I was talking to (Baton Rouge Police) Chief Dabadie, I think they have five, none related to this. The coroner's office says none of his have similarities to this."

Call authorities if you have any information that can lead to an arrest.
