Father turns in son accused in bank robbery
METAIRIE - A 73-year-old man says he turned in his son after he was identified as a suspect in a bank robbery.
The Times-Picayune reports that Walton Duplantis saw a newspaper article on Nov. 18 about the robbery of a Whitney National Bank branch in Metairie.
At the time, the newspaper said, he lightheartedly told his son, David Duplantis, that he looked like the suspect in the surveillance photo.
"He said, 'You think I'm that fat?'" Walton Duplantis recalled his son telling him. "I said, 'No, I'm just kidding you.'"
But he became suspicious after his son fled to California and he contacted the FBI.
David Duplantis, 52, was indicted Friday with robbing the bank.
