Father, son killed in Pointe Coupee crash
CHENAL - A single-car crash claimed the lives of a father and son overnight in Pointe Coupee Parish.
It happened just before 11:30 p.m. Thursday on Hwy. 415 near Hwy. 414.
State troopers say 47-year-old Sidney R. Morel of Jarreau was heading south on Hwy. 415 when he failed to negotiate a curve. He over-corrected and ran off the road, causing the vehicle to flip several times.
He and his father, 68-year-old Sidney J. Morel, died at the scene. Police say both men were wearing their seatbelts.
Neighbors of the 47-year-old say they thought of him as more than a neighbor.
"He was a good friend, good fellow. You can ask anyone on this island. They all know him. He was a good guy," said Heather Richard.
Investigators believe the younger Morel may have been impaired at the time of the accident.
