Father charged with murder in infant's death
BATON ROUGE - Police arrested the father of an infant who died last weekend after investigators said he abused her.
Baton Rouge Police accused Larry Leflore, 26, of first degree murder and simple battery in the death of 11-month-old Aaliyah Heard.
Police said doctors found a number of burns and bruises on the infant, as well as evidence she'd been sexually abused, when she was taken to the hospital unresponsive on Friday, June 21. She died the next day from blunt force trauma to her head, according to the coroner's preliminary report.
Investigators arrested her mother, 28-year-old Ashley Heard, after they said she told them she knew about the injuries but didn't report them or seek treatment for them. She was charged with cruelty to a juvenile.
Police booked Leflore into the parish prison this afternoon.
