Father arrested after troopers catch 8-year-old driving on I-12
LIVINGSTON- Louisiana State Police arrested a man after receiving a call from a concerned driver who reported seeing a young boy driving erratically on the interstate.
According to State Police, troopers pulled over the 8-year-old on I-12 just west of Livingston Parish and found his father, 28-year-old Billy Joe Madden, of Hattiesburg, Miss., in the passenger seat. Troopers say Madden was intoxicated and sleeping while his son drove from Hattiesburg, Miss. to Dallas, Texas. State Police say Madden's 4-year-old daughter was riding in the backseat.
State Police say both children were turned over to Child Protective Services and are waiting to be picked up by a family member. The kids were not injured during the traffic stop.
Madden was booked in the Livingston Parish Jail and charged with two counts of child desertion, parent allowing minor to drive, open container, two counts of no child restraint and no seatbelt.
