Father arrested after striking son with cord, leaving multiple marks
BATON ROUGE - A 39-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly struck his 15-year-old son with a cord.
According to arrest records, authorities were called to Our Lady of the Lake hospital in the 5000 block of Hennessy Blvd on Friday around 6:37 p.m.
Upon arrival, authorities were told Joseph Elphage Jr. struck his 15-year-old son with a cord. The incident reported left multiple marks on multiple places on the son's body, according to arrest records.
Photographs of the victim clearly showed several red markings, or welts, on each leg, his back, neck and hip, according to arrest records.
Elphage was advised of his rights, to which he stated he understood. Elphage said he had disciplined his son for skipping school by hitting him with a cord on the buttocks.
Elphage was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of cruelty to juveniles.
