NEW ORLEANS- A federal jury is hearing closing arguments in the case against two New Orleans police officers charged in the beating death of a 48-year-old man.

The jury is expected to begin deliberations this afternoon. Testimony in the case against Melvin Williams and Matthew Dean Moore last four days.

Williams faces three charges in connection to fatally beating Raymond Robair, after he and Moore encountered him while patrolling a New Orleans street on July 30, 2005.

Prosecutors say Robair died of a ruptured spleen and massive internal bleeding after the officers dropped him off at a hospital.

Both officers are charged with falsifying a report on the incident.

Moore is charged with lying to the FBI when he said Williams never struck Robair.
